Skating Nomad? Who's she?

Welcome to my first ever blog post! In this blog I aim to help people to find amazing locations to travel to, and give some helpful tips and tricks for your next holiday. I have been teaching English as a foreign language and travelling the world for the past 4 years, and in that time I have visited around 15 countries spanning 4 continents. Many of the best places I can recommend are off the beaten track and some won't be found in your standard tourist magazines or tour guides.

However, as they say in Avatar, everything changed when the Corona virus attacked. I am now back in my hometown trying to plan my next move which is proving to be very tricky given that lock-down requirements seem to be changing every 5 minutes!

My very first stop on my travelling journey was Hong Kong where I stayed for just over 1 year, here I got my first taste of ESL teaching, traveled all over Asia, ate amazing food, hiked in some fantastic nature, and the best part is that it was the first time I had ever left Europe! If you could just visit one country in Asia I would 100% recommend making that country Hong Kong. Everything from the people, to the food, to the public transportation is, in my opinion, perfect.

I've spent the most recent school year living in sunny Spain, around 60km north of Barcelona. While it has been lovely to be somewhere hot after a year and a half in snowy Canada, this year was rudely interrupted when Corona virus shut down the entire world, so while I did get to explore some amazing locations in the east of Spain before the lock-down, I didn't get to venture much further out.

From Hong Kong I hopped over to the Great White North (Canada) where I lived for about 1 and a half years, I was based in Calgary but I got to travel all over the country. There are still a lot of places in the east that I need to get to though! Canada is a breathtaking country, and if you can stand the cold weather it is unlike anything else I have ever experienced.

After Canada I jetted off to Finland for a short 3 month contract teaching English to Russian teenagers right on the border between Russia and Finland. I was based way up in a place called Savonlinna which is around 350km north-east of Helsinki.

In every place I have lived I have always had one primary mission: find a roller derby team! So far so good, I have met some of the best people I know through roller derby and having that community in every place I visit is one of the most important things for my well being. Thanks for following my blog and I will see you again soon in the next one!
